Gareth
is a qualified secondary school teacher
who taught full-time for 5 years in Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun
(A Welsh language comprehensive school near Merthyr Tudful).
Gareth left full time teaching in 2003 in order to take
a Post Graduate course in Jazz and worked part time in Ysgol
Gyfun Plasmawr during this time to fund his studies. At
present Gareth is working as a part-time music teacher in
Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf in Cardiff.
As well as working as a classroom teacher, Gareth is also
heavily involved with running music workshops for pupils
of all ages. He attended a course for Workshop Leaders at
the Guildhall School of Music in London in October 2005
and since then has been recognised by both Guildhall
and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
as a workshop leader for the national Note 4 Note
school workshop project. Gareth is also part of the outreach
team from RWCMD who run regular music workshops in local
South Wales schools.
Gareth also works regularly at the Wales Millenium
Centre where he runs a weekly music workshop for
the Urdd (a Welsh language youth group) and helps run music
workshops for occasional school visits.
He runs two successful school jazz bands and has managed
to win the National Urdd Eisteddfod ensemble competition
for the past two years.
Gareth also gives private trombone lessons as well as still
occasionally tutoring Maths GCSE and A Level.
